Magic in the Rio Grande

A piece dedicated to the movement within the Rio Grande. Starting from the topography of this canyon each side of this two-part sculpture shares the motion of the water. Then they go their own ways as each part explores the canyon walls. This project is apart of an ongoing series exploring the idea of entering a new place. How do we start to get to know the environments we live in and which areas we are drawn to and create comfort. The Rio Grande was an area that drew me in as I started getting to know Taos, New Mexico. This large gorge splitting the earth apart as the snowy mountains grow up from the flat land ahead.

This photo exposes the topographic lines that became the base to the sculpture.
